My apologizes for the neglect. It has been very busy the past few months; earrings, earrings, earrings… Things are a little quieter and in a way I am thankful. I have had more time to experiment and improve certain designs as well as learn a bit more about being a seller on Etsy. (seller: Greenwooddesign)

I do need to get on the ball and pay more attention to this little blog. But every time I start typing, I get an urge to create some art instead. But for now I am going to sit in my patio chair and enjoy a bit of this “Indian Summer.” I hope you do too.

It is alive!!!

Can’t write now, must celebrate!

a little blue…

June 16th, 2011

I have been working, sleeping, eating and repeating; unfortunately neglecting my studio space. So to show it a little love and perhaps inspire the sun to shine through my windows, I did a bit of painting.

new paint smell...

Since painting, I have been rewarded with sunshine, blue skies, and plenty of motivation. So much motivation in fact, I keep waking up with the sun; ready to burst with new ideas. I have been so creative, I found myself braiding my chive plants and had to stop myself before I attempted to shave a rose into the side of my head.

I have a few more ideas for earrings, that will remedy the lack o’ hackle issue. Just a few more supplies and I can make magic happen providing I don’t get distracted.

And don’t be fooled, living in the middle of nowhere still provides something for the ADD in all of us. It can be pretty easy to get distracted when this face watches my every move from her perch in my studio!

Tilly. My adorable, foulmouthed, fuzzy little gremlin.

Hackle Shortage?!

May 18th, 2011

After trying to find decent feathers for my earrings, I have come up empty handed when it comes to saddle hackle. What I did discover was that I wasn’t the only one who had noticed the shortage. Blogs dedicated to blaming the fashion industry for the shortage that won’t  recover until next year. Desperate times call for desperate measures, so I must treat those I have left as gold.

This shortage has an upside and a downside. The downside is something to pout about. Because of the shortage, products made with saddle hackle with become more expensive. It’s that terrible “supply and demand” thing. On the up, I won’t be needing that type of feather when making hoop earrings, so I guess I will be creating a few more of these during this hackle feather crisis. The elegant long feathers are also not necessary for necklace making. Phew, crisis averted.

I hope you are a fan of these, because there will be more of them available!

something new

a few more...

Lately with all my earring making, I haven’t had a moment for some inspiration. Don’t get me wrong, I love to find a comfy perch and create beautiful earrings out of feathers. I like to imagine who will wear them, what they will wear them with, and how many people will see those earrings and think:”where can I get a pair of those”. A decent amount of daydreaming goes into each earring! But while I was creating the other day an idea stopped in for a visit. So I took that idea and ran with it.

Time to try something new: necklaces. Simple to begin with, but I have already started working on some more elaborate styles. I enjoy trying something new! I’ll post them when they are finished. But for now, here is the prototype:

simple necklace made with lovebird tail feather.

attempting technology

May 4th, 2011

Here it is; my attempt to join this century.

Spring is the perfect season for changes and new beginnings. So I am giving change a try. Hopefully next time you visit my newborn blog, it will be decorated with my artwork: paintings, earrings, photographs, and whatever else inspires me.

Wish me luck!
